The standard leaded solder is mainly used as 60/40 ready fluxed in sizes of 18 22 and 24awg and generally optimum working temperature is 700f (370c).
The new directive is forcing most manufacturing companies to use unleaded solder which is available in many forms with or without silver and some lead free solders have very corrosive fluxes making them very tough on soldering iron tips.
